Lick Is A Four-Letter Word - Erin M. Leaf A Hearts On Fire ReviewTWO STARS--What would you do if you meet two strangers in while wearing a paper apron and trapped in a spa? If your answer is, why make out with them, of course, let me introduce you to Erin Leaf's "Lick is a Four Letter Word" the third from the Four Letter Word series. (all can be read as standalones)Felicity, who has a permanent bad ankle from being involved in a car accident that killed her husband, three years ago meets, two younger best friends, Josh and Troy. She is still reeling from his death and has body issues (she's not a size two) Josh and Troy are apparently very hot because they are mixed race. Unfortunately, both men's physical attributes (their dusky skin, etc) were mentioned a lot that it saturated the story. Don't expect much depth in this story, it read like a long PWP. The three get into mire trapped/locked situations where they are together in different closed locations and they make out. Felicity then runs and tells her friend about what naughty woman she's been for making out with a Black and Asian guy. *eye roll* And I like PWP especially well written ones but what makes PWP work is that there's a balance between how much plot given. Then at 50%, a suspense angle is just thrown in haphazardly. We go from Felicity being so cool (please note my disdain) for kissing two guys at the same time especially since one is half Asian and the other half Black according to Felicity's friend, Sue. I really was not a fan of Felicity's friend, she was ditzy and not in a fun way.The three have sex finally without any more scenes of the three of them being locked in a semi private space. It was average. The two straight friends, Josh and Troy have limp internal angst about kissing each other. They graduated to kissing to anal fairly quickly but buildup towards the point of no return for them was lackluster. Yes, Josh and Troy have man on man sex but Felicity is usually there for the ride as well. Then around 75%, the suspense angle is once again brought up to an attempted robbery in broad daylight with three masked men. I just couldn't believe that this scene even happened and the reasoning was weaker than the crime. (I mean these unnamed men just wait three years to act but started their suspenseful actions in a matter of days? Made no sense) The author does throw in mentions of racial profiling and a bigot mother (Felicity's). I guess it was supposed to add some sense of depth to these one dimensional characters but they still read flat. Plus it's an insta-love story. It might be me (I doubt it) but I've read better interracial and menage erotica. This was my first time reading from this author. I'm pretty sure this will be the last.Meh.
